Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
The child asks Neo to reconsider what he assumes about the world he sees. His explanation shifts the possibility of change from manipulating an object to understanding the apparent reality around it. This is the child’s single line from the longer exchange in the 1999 film.

Spoilers for The MatrixShow the scene
Waiting at the Oracle's apartment among the other potentials, Neo watches a young boy dressed as a monk's apprentice bend a spoon in his hand, seemingly of its own accord. The boy hands it over with some advice: don't try to bend the spoon, which is impossible, but realise the truth. This is that truth, and the boy adds that then you'll see it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself. Soon afterwards, Neo is shown in to meet the Oracle.
