No comedian has been hit harder by fake attributions: the viral essays 'The Paradox of Our Time' and 'I Am a Bad American' circulated under Carlin's name for years, and he denounced them on his own website -- calling the former a 'sappy load of shit' he would never write. Genuine Carlin is documented in the HBO specials and his books, and it is meaner, funnier, and aimed squarely at religion, work, and language. If it sounds wistful, it is not Carlin.
