I’ve made a huge mistake.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

The line is G.O.B.'s signature admission and a perfect little summary of the Bluth family: a huge regret, announced with total confidence and no intention of learning from it. It became one of the show's most-quoted phrases because it fits any bad decision, from a bad haircut to a bad relationship. Fans say it with a shrug of the shoulders.

Spoilers for Arrested DevelopmentShow the scene

This is the catchphrase of G.O.B. Bluth, the magician son in Arrested Development, and it is heard from the first season. In Key Decisions (1x04) he says it when he is in jail and realises his cell has no private toilet, and again, privately, after recommitting to his girlfriend Marta. The line recurs across the series, usually for G.O.B. but sometimes for other Bluths: Marta, Michael, even George Sr. says it of his affair.
