Who would have thought Hell would actually exist? And that it would be in New Jersey.

Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
The speaker reacts with mock astonishment that Hell turns out to be real, then adds a punchline: it is located in New Jersey. The joke depends on the deadpan pivot from cosmic revelation to ordinary geography, teasing a real place by treating it as the setting for eternal damnation.
