I'm not superstitious, but I am a little stitious.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

Michael wants to dismiss superstition and still keep it, and "a little stitious" is the invented word that lets him do both. It is quoted whenever someone knocks on wood while claiming not to believe. It is Michael at his best: confident, wrong, and endearing.

Spoilers for The Office (U.S.)Show the scene

The line comes from "Fun Run", the two-part season 4 premiere that aired on 27 September 2007. Michael has hit Meredith with his car in the parking lot, breaking her pelvis. After Angela's cat Sprinkles dies and a virus hits Pam's computer, he becomes convinced the office is cursed. In a talking head he says he must take responsibility for lifting the curse that came from hitting Meredith, and delivers the line. He then calls a meeting about everyone's religious beliefs.
