The joke is that the wisest sentence in the episode comes from the town drunk, and not even from him: it was lifted off a napkin. It also happens to be sound advice, which is why it travels. Fans quote it about crushes of every kind, and the napkin payoff is the show's habit of undercutting a moment of sincerity with a perfectly stupid explanation.

In "The Last Temptation of Homer" (season 5, aired 9 December 1993) Homer falls for Mindy, a new colleague at the nuclear plant who shares his love of beer, donuts and television. Panicking over his marriage, he asks Barney what to do. Barney, of all people, delivers shrewd advice: infatuation is mere attraction, and a conversation will cure it. Homer is amazed and asks how he thought of it. Barney holds up a bar napkin with the same words printed on it.
