Kamina

Go beyond the impossible and kick reason to the curb!

— Gurren Lagann  ·  2007

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

It is Kamina's whole philosophy in one shout: don't do what is sensible, do what cannot be done. Reason in the show is the wall, and the line says to kick it down. Fans use it as a rallying cry for impossible plans, and it is the idea that Simon carries through the rest of the series after Kamina is gone.

Spoilers for Gurren LagannShow the scene

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (2007), episode 1, "Bust Through the Heavens with Your Drill!". Kamina, the loud young man from the underground village of Giha, founds Team Gurren with Simon, the shy digger who calls him "bro" though they are not related. His plan is to drill through the roof and reach the surface people say does not exist. Their first attempt, riding mole-pigs, is stopped by the village chief, and Kamina is jailed as a liar. The line is the motto Wikiquote files under this first episode, and it later becomes the creed of the whole resistance, Team Dai-Gurren.
