Muda muda muda muda!

— JoJo's Bizarre Adventure · 2012

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

The word is DIO's whole philosophy in a punch: whatever you try against me is useless, because I am further ahead than you will ever be. Set against Jotaro's matching 'Ora Ora', it made the Part 3 clashes the best-known fight-by-shouting in anime, and the cry has been quoted, dubbed and parodied for decades, including a version that works as a standing meme reply to any plan someone is sure will fail.

Spoilers for JoJo's Bizarre AdventureShow the scene

'Muda' means 'useless' in Japanese, and the barrage is the Stand cry of The World, the time-stopping Stand of the vampire DIO, the villain of Stardust Crusaders (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 3, 1989 to 1992). As The World hammers an opponent with a flurry of punches DIO yells the word in rhythm with the blows, answering the 'Ora Ora' cry of the hero Jotaro Kujo and his Stand, Star Platinum. The story builds to their confrontation at DIO's mansion in Cairo, and DIO dies there in January 1989, in the story's timeline, destroyed through Star Platinum.
