A tall blond figure in yellow, seen from behind, waits on a moonlit Cairo street as a teenager in a long dark coat and cap walks steadily toward him.

Oh? You're approaching me?

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

DIO's mockery of a head-on charge is the setup; Jotaro's flat reply is the punchline, and the walk towards the camera between them became the famous JoJo approach panel. As a meme it is used for anything where someone strides straight at a threat, with a caption swapped in for DIO's line. It also made the English wording, rather than the original Japanese, the version everyone now quotes.

Spoilers for JoJo's Bizarre AdventureShow the scene

The Cairo showdown of Stardust Crusaders, in episode 46, "DIO's World, Part 2" (aired 5 June 2015). DIO has just stopped time with The World and killed Kakyoin; Joseph has taken a knife to the throat and seems dead. Jotaro, furious, starts walking straight at the vampire with no plan except to beat him senseless. DIO, amused by the recklessness, asks whether Jotaro is really walking towards him instead of running. Jotaro keeps coming, and the two Stands, Star Platinum and The World, collide.
