I have an army. / We have a Hulk.

Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
It is Stark's whole character in four words: a quip that is a threat, a boast and a team-building speech in one. At that point the Avengers barely get along, and the joke is that their loose cannon is the answer to an army. The line is a go-to caption for any mismatch, and fans quote the back-and-forth whenever someone brings overwhelming force.

Spoilers for Marvel's The AvengersShow the scene
In Marvel's The Avengers (2012), Loki has taken over Stark Tower for his invasion and Tony Stark confronts him there before the battle. Stark runs through the team he has made an enemy of: a demigod, a living-legend soldier, a man with anger problems and two master assassins. Loki replies that he has an army, and Stark answers that they have a Hulk. Loki scoffs that he thought the beast had wandered off. The Hulk's payoff comes in the finale, when he incapacitates Loki. Mark Ruffalo's Hulk says a single line of his own: "Puny god."
