Joker

Madness, as you know, is like gravity. All it takes is a little push.

What it means

Our interpretation.

It is the Joker's thesis about everyone, packed into one image: madness is not a special condition but something anyone can slide into with the right shove. The gravity comparison fits the scene, since he is literally hanging in the air as he says it. Fans quote it for anything where a small push sets off a great fall.

Spoilers for The Dark KnightShow the scene

At the climax of The Dark Knight (2008), Batman has stopped the Joker and refused to kill him. The Joker hangs upside down from the unfinished tower where they fought and goes on goading him. He tells Batman he took Gotham's White Knight and dragged him down to their level, and it was not hard. He then delivers the gravity line. Dent's corruption is his win, and that same night it ends with Dent falling to his death.
