When guys are persistent, it's romantic, they make movies about that. If it's a woman, then they cast Glenn Close.
— Ally McBeal ‧ 1997

What it means
Our interpretation.
The speaker points to a double standard: a man who keeps pursuing someone is treated as a romantic hero worthy of films, while a woman doing the same is cast as something sinister. The remark is wry and bitter, mocking how identical determination earns opposite reputations.
