Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

It is the series' whole premise in a throwaway rock chorus: a man who peaked decades ago and still introduces himself by his old show. Because it plays after episodes that can be bleak, the cheerful tune carries an ironic edge. Fans quote the opener as a joke about their own faded glories, and the song's changes in later episodes became a running gag.

Spoilers for BoJack HorsemanShow the scene

This is the first lyric of "Back in the 90's", the end-credits theme of BoJack Horseman, performed by the band Grouplove. Written in the voice of the washed-up sitcom horse, it plays under the credits and sets out his situation: the star of a famous 90s sitcom, Horsin' Around, hanging on to his past. In some episodes the opening line is changed to fit the story; the version for "The BoJack Horseman Show" refers instead to a TV show that did not succeed.
