When you look at someone through rose-colored glasses, all the red flags just look like flags.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

Wanda says it calmly, almost kindly, and that is why it stings: a joke about love that is really a verdict on how BoJack, and plenty of viewers, have ignored warning signs because they wanted the story to go well. It became one of the most-shared lines from the series, passed around as a caption whenever someone sees a past relationship clearly.

Spoilers for BoJack HorsemanShow the scene

In "Yes And" (BoJack Horseman, season 2, episode 10, 2015), BoJack is stuck re-shooting the Secretariat biopic and sulking at home while Diane camps on his deck. Wanda, his girlfriend and a TV network executive, suggests a trip to Santa Barbara. He sneers at her job, blames a network executive like her for ruining his life, and says she only loved him before she really knew him. Wanda answers with this line, and soon afterwards BoJack tells Diane that Wanda is moving out.
