Father Jack

Drink! Feck! Arse! Girls!

— Father Ted  ·  1995

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

Four words sum up Jack's whole outlook, and fans use them as shorthand for a bad mood or a long night. The mix of the crude and the childlike is the joke: nothing else is needed to know who is slumped in the armchair.

Spoilers for Father TedShow the scene

This is the string of words Father Jack barks through the series, not one line from a single scene. The fan wiki lists "Drink! Feck! Arse! Girls!" as his random shouts, sometimes with a "What!" thrown in. The elocution lesson in "Tentacles of Doom" (1996) shows the habit at work: Ted turns a board toward him and Jack answers with drink, feck and girls. In the first episode, "Good Luck, Father Ted" (1995), he is already hurling bottles at the television and demanding a drink.
