Fry, of all the friends I've had, you're the first.
— Futurama · 1999
Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
Bender is a thief, a drunk and a self-declared enemy of humanity, and here he sincerely admits that Fry is the closest thing he has to a friend. It lands because the show rarely lets him be soft, and because the line is also a gag about how few friends a robot with his habits can have. Fans quote it as the Fry and Bender friendship in one sentence.

Spoilers for FuturamaShow the scene
In "I, Roommate" (Futurama, season 1, April 1999), Fry has been thrown out of the Planet Express offices and has been squeezing into Bender's tiny apartment. After a fruitless search the pair lease the filthy flat of a dead colleague of Professor Farnsworth's, with Bender sleeping in the closet. Standing in the squalor, Fry says it is the first time in a thousand years he feels at home. Bender, gleeful about the move, answers with this line, just before the housewarming party starts.
