Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
Lorelai in full flow: a phrase with no content at all, delivered with total confidence, that lets her wave away anything tedious in one breath. The sound is half the joke, and it is why fans reach for it as an all-purpose eye-roll. It also shows the show's habit of inventing slang that sounds real enough to borrow.

Spoilers for Gilmore GirlsShow the scene
In the Season 2 finale, "I Can't Get Started" (21 May 2002), Lorelai is at Friday-night dinner with Emily and Richard, with Sookie's wedding days away. Out of nowhere she decides that "oy" is the funniest word in the world and "poodle" is another funny word, then crowns the pairing a new catchphrase that she says will knock "What you talkin' 'bout, Willis?" out of first place. Emily can only tell her to drink up. Lorelai then tells them that Sookie has invited the elder Gilmores to the wedding.
