Why are you keeping this curiosity door locked?

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

It is Dustin's best argument: not louder or smarter than the adult, just proof that the teacher already agreed with him. The line is a reminder that the show is about curiosity as much as monsters, and fans use it to answer anyone who tells them to come back on Monday.

Spoilers for Stranger ThingsShow the scene

In 'Chapter Seven: The Bathtub' (season 1, 2016), Eleven's powers are not enough to find Will, and she gets the idea of building a makeshift sensory deprivation tank. Dustin phones his science teacher, Mr. Clarke, on a Saturday night and asks how to build one. Mr. Clarke tries to put him off until Monday, so Dustin turns Clarke's own saying against him, the one about never closing a door on curiosity. It works: Clarke explains how, and the group learns they need a large amount of salt and drives to Hawkins Middle.
