Ash to Bad Ash

Good... Bad... I'm the guy with the gun.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

Ash is facing his own evil double, and his answer is that the labels do not matter: the one holding the shotgun wins. Fans quote it as the blunt end to any moral argument, and it is the kind of line that made Ash the model for the cocky action hero who is also the joke.

Spoilers for Army of DarknessShow the scene

Army of Darkness (1992). On the way to the Necronomicon, Ash is chased through a haunted forest into a windmill, where he crashes into a mirror. The shards bring tiny reflections of him to life, and one grows into a full-sized double. This Evil Ash taunts him as a goody two-shoes while sucker-punching him. Ash lifts his shotgun and fires, in the theatrical cut with this line; the director's cut gives him a different one ("I ain't that good"). He then dismembers and buries the body, not knowing it will rise again.
