Step up, ladies and gentlemen, come see if you can out drive the golf ball...uhh...whacker guy.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

The speaker plays carnival barker, inviting passers-by to try to beat a golfer's drive. The comic stumble in the final phrase, where he can't quite name the person, undercuts the sales pitch and reveals the improvised, slightly flustered showmanship behind the confident call.
