Abed Nadir

Cool. Cool cool cool.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

It is Abed's whole outlook in a mumble: agreeable, flat, and a little too fast, the sound of someone processing a social moment by agreeing with it. Fans use the triple 'cool' as a polite way of saying a situation is not cool at all, and Danny Pudi's deadpan delivery is a staple of reaction GIFs.

The catchphrase turns up in the pilot, "Pilot" (17 September 2009). In the Greendale library study room, Jeff Winger is trying to chat up Britta at his fake Spanish study group when Abed arrives, saying Britta invited him and asking if that is cool. Jeff reluctantly agrees, and Abed answers with the first "Cool, cool, cool" before observing that the scene is like The Breakfast Club. It stuck: the character wiki leads Abed's page with it, and he is still saying it in later seasons, such as "Home Economics".
