Abed Nadir

Six seasons and a movie!

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

Abed's cheerful prophecy became the rallying cry of the fandom, repeated through the show's near-cancellations as a hopeful, half-joking demand that the series keep going. It is a joke about television that turned into a campaign about television. The film announced for Peacock in 2022 gave it a real-world payoff.

Spoilers for CommunityShow the scene

In the Community season 2 clip-show episode "Paradigms of Human Memory" (NBC, 21 April 2011), the study group's library scene includes a running riff on The Cape, a short-lived superhero show from that year. Abed, in character as the Cape, gets tangled in his cloak and sends Jeff's cafeteria tray crashing to the floor. Jeff snaps that the show will last three weeks. Abed answers, deadpan, that it will last six seasons and a movie. The Cape was cancelled after one season, but the line stuck.
