Of all the timelines, this is clearly the darkest.

Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
Abed takes a sitcom disaster and files it like a film nerd, ranking it among the possible worlds. The line is the show's all-purpose phrase for when everything has gone wrong, and it escaped the series: people call a bad year or a bad news cycle the Darkest Timeline, goatee optional.

Spoilers for CommunityShow the scene
In "Remedial Chaos Theory" (season 3 episode 4, 13 October 2011), the study group's housewarming party splits into seven timelines depending on who rolls a die to fetch the pizza. In the last one, a chain of accidents leaves Pierce dead, Annie in psychiatric care, Jeff missing an arm, Troy without his voice and Shirley drinking heavily, while Britta has a blue streak. Abed declares that of all the timelines this one is the darkest, puts on a felt goatee and renames himself Evil Abed, and Troy joins in. The Darkest Timeline went on to return in later episodes.
