Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

Two best friends invent a show for an audience of nobody, and it is the purest expression of the Troy and Abed friendship. The sing-song sign-off became the show's emblem for joyful nonsense and fans' shorthand for the pair, appearing on mugs, T-shirts and in later episodes whenever the writers wanted to show them at their happiest.

Spoilers for CommunityShow the scene

The morning-show gag debuts in the end tag of "The Science of Illusion" (season 1 episode 20, 25 March 2010). Troy and Abed sit in the study room in a grey sports coat and a striped sweater, holding branded mugs, hosting an imaginary talk show with no camera. Their first guest is a baffled Jeff, who keeps asking where the cameras are, loses his temper and storms off, and the pair try to sign off with the sing-song title. The show returned as a running tag and sketch through the series.
